The South Jersey Emerging Journalists Project (SJEJP) is an independent initiative dedicated to supporting content creators and emerging journalists from underserved communities across Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland, and Atlantic counties.
Through fellowships, partnerships, and community engagement, SJEJP works to ensure that South Jersey’s diverse stories are told, heard, and shared.
For decades, residents living near the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) landfill in Egg Harbor Township have raised concerns about the facility’s impact on their health and quality of life.
The rich cultural heritage of Camden was on full display Tuesday afternoon as the city honored Black History Month with an art exhibition at City Hall. The event served as both a platform for local artists to showcase their work and an opportunity for the community to celebrate the talents of their neighbors.
In 1921, Louis Grossman, the owner of an oil and gas store in North Woodbury, initially organized the Helping Hand Fire Company. Founded in 1922, the Helping Hand Fire Company’s legacy has stood the test of time as one of the oldest African American volunteer fire companies in the state of New Jersey.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, civil rights attorney Stanley King was given the opportunity as an undergrad to serve in an internship with the United States Commission of Civil Rights. As an intern, he worked with Ebenezer Baptist Church (which was pastored by Martin Luther King Jr.)Â and the surrounding community. In addition to serving at this historical landmark, he devoted time to the King Center and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.Â
